OUR PROGRAMS
Men’s Recovery Program
Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Healthy and sustainable recovery starts with a supportive community. Our groups promote safety, respect, and acceptance to ensure that each member can stop their problematic substance use and learn skills to help with the challenges of early recovery. This gives them the opportunity to do the difficult work of exploring underlying issues that may have driven their use. Because our facilitators are dually trained in both mental health and substance use, we support a collaborative exploration and healing process of core issues that drive the substance use. We draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention and more. Foundational to our approach are the 4 main components we emphasize to promote sustained change:
Accountability– Our groups cultivate strong bonds between members. Many male clients have identified APA treatment groups as the first time they have had deep and personal conversations with other men. These bonds form a community built on deep connection that is instrumental to the recovery journey. The relationships formed with our team, as well as group members, are often long lasting and support the process of lifelong changes.
Structure– All phases of treatment offer a comprehensive and individualized schedule. This ensures that clients receive the level of care necessary to break habits established during substance use. The time devoted to treatment reinforces change and creates an intentional practice that promotes stability and sustainability.
Support –. Our team works to support the member’s individualized journey toward recovery. We help empower each of our clients to discover his unique path toward health. As each of our clients gain insight, we help establish internal and external resources to help meet his needs for healing and sustained recovery.
Tools. – Our curriculum has been built over decades of work in this field. Each of our unique tools has been developed from a variety of therapeutic modalities. Topics will include but not limited to
- Identifying and managing triggers
- Building healthy community
- Establishing clear boundaries and improving communication skills
- Identifying and regulating emotions
- Resolve enhancement and relapse prevention
- Mindfulness for relapse prevention and emotion regulation

Stopping drinking or drug use may seem simple, but it’s not.
Our Men’s Program includes 3 main phases of treatment:
Intensive Outpatient– This initial phase of treatment offers a supportive and multifaceted environment to establish ‘sturdy sober legs’. Within this phase, members learn a wide range of tools and skills to both manage triggers and expand awareness of underlying issues of substance use. Throughout IOP, members develop and hone mindfulness skills to grow in self-awareness and connection to self. Phase 1 of treatment provides the foundation for continued growth and exploration as well as a ‘toolbox’ of skills available to promote a substance free life.
Continuing Care– Our second phase of treatment is designed to explore the underlying roots of substance use. Through this phase, participants develop a deeper understanding of the origins of underlying emotional pain and/or unmet needs that previously drove substance use. Each member develops his unique ‘practice’ of long-term recovery to integrate a solid sense of continuous support.
Resolve enhancement – Our third phase of treatment consists of a minimum monthly individual session focused on evaluating a client’s recovery practices. This helps ensure that sustainable support and structure have been created, and that our clients are able to live a satisfying life with no continued need or want for mood-altering substances.
