Therapy Elements

Family Support

Many have found our Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention classes to be one of the most useful elements that they can use on a daily basis to deal with cravings, stress and impulses.

Our Wellness component focuses on the nutritional and physical ways of healing the body and brain from the use of chemicals. The brain is highly capable of healing itself, and even surpassing its previous condition.

Through Therapy, we incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy to help change lifelong patterns of negative self talk, destructive, discouraging self-image, and low self esteem.

We believe it is important for family, friends, and partners to get support for themselves while a loved one is recovering. At A Positive Alternative we will help family members find the resources they need.

A Positive Alternative

Established in 1990, A Positive Alternative provides a unique and progressive approach to treatment for substance use concerns. We are a State Certified Outpatient Program offering two separate programs, one for men and one for women. Our treatment program offers an alternative that does not focus on AA and that uses evidence-based skills and tools to treat addictive patterns of behavior.

We view every client as a unique individual and tailor our approach to address their specific issues. Our Master’s level clinicians offer decades of experience having specialized in mental health services in combination with alcohol and substance abuse treatment. Group members have a high degree of personal motivation, arriving free from any current legal or court involvement. Our in-depth screening process ensures that members are able to be open and honest and bring a strong commitment to change.

Men's Recovery Program

Men’s Recovery Program

Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Often our clients have tried to stop their substance use on their own, thinking if they were really committed that would be enough, when in fact, they are missing a great deal of what it takes to be successful. If you have felt alone or isolated in your struggle, we can help you discover that joining with other like minded men on a similar journey can make all the difference.
